In Celebration of

Mavis Ann Lunny (nee Reynolds)

November 10, 1925 -  May 11, 2025

A devoted mother, coveted bridge partner, and unwavering optimist passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, in her 100th year.

Born on November 10, 1925, in Montreal, Quebec, Mavis was the eldest of four and is survived by her dear brother, Kevin Reynolds. She was predeceased by her siblings Marion and Fred. In 1996, she became the last of her immediate family to make the journey down the 401 highway, joining her children in Toronto. It was here she broadened her life surrounded by her ever-expanding family and circle of friends, many met through her years of stewardship of the Barclay Ladies Club.

Known for her resourcefulness and resilience, Mavis had a gift for stretching a dollar while never losing her joy for life. She had a sparkle that endured—always the last to leave a party, even into her nineties. Her warmth and strength left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Mavis is lovingly remembered by her children Joanne (Jim), Trish, and Rick (Lorrie). She was predeceased by her cherished son Chris (Sarah) and son-in-law Ernie. Grams leaves behind a legacy of love in her 10 grandchildren—Carolyn (Chris), Andrea (Larissa), Michael (Codie), Ryan (Elana), Heather (Alex), Marie (Rob), Kaila (Chris), Keriann, Sean (Kyla), and Conor—and 14 great-grandchildren. “Aunt Mavis” was also greatly admired by her many nieces and nephews.

Mavis was a news fanatic, and always had an answer to, “Mom, who won the game? With fading eyesight in her later years, she relied on her loyal companion, "Alexa," to keep her up to date on the latest events, a testament to her independence and adaptability.

The family will welcome visitors to Turner & Porter Butler Funeral Chapel, 4933 Dundas Street West, Etobicoke, May 22nd from 4 to 7pm.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows, 3055 Bloor St W, Etobicoke on Friday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Michael’s Foundation, Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. David Wong, would be deeply appreciated—a cause close to Mavis’ heart, and eyes!

Ever since my parents (Lloyd & Joyce Suitor) moved to Barclay Terrace, all I heard about was Mavis Lunny and what a character she was. She was the heart of the ladies club, a card shark at bridge and was known to close out a party or two with my parents in tow. I was fortunate enough to work at Delmanor in her final years and she continued to amaze me with her sharp whit and determination. Mavis was one of a kind and will be missed.

We have fond memories of Mavis as an important part of our father’s life during our childhood. She ran his dental practice and so much more. She had a unique combination of humour and practicality that we all relied upon during good times and bad. Sincere condolences to the family from Peter, Stephen and Rod.
