Marija Zafran (neé Stimac) passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Toronto Western Hospital on July 21st, 2025 at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband Ante, she leaves behind daughter Ana, son Ivan, son Tony with wife Marisa and grandchildren Lucas and Maia, who were her pride and joy.
Marija was born in Gospic, Lika, Croatia on December 18, 1933, youngest of six children born to Mate and Kata Stimac. She is predeceased by her siblings Katica, Manda, Marko, Mate, and Anka. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews – Marko (predeceased), Mary, John and Annie and their families as well as grand nieces and nephews – Katarina, Slavica, Mate, Nikola (predeceased) and their families.
Marija was a proud Croatian and faithful Catholic who regularly attended mass at Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church in Toronto. She was an active member of her Croatian Seniors community attending dances, dinners, picnics and trips abroad. Despite the many challenges she dealt with in life she remained and will always be remembered as someone full of energy, laughter and joy.
She will be dearly missed by all and remembered for all the goodness she brought to our lives.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Friday, July 25th from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church, 7 Croatia St, Toronto, on Saturday, July 26th at 10 a.m. Interment Assumption Cemetery.
