<div itemprop="description">Better known as &quot;Sensei&quot; or &quot;Jiichan&quot;, peacefully in Fox Harbour, Nova Scotia on July 31st, 2013, surrounded by family, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Masako Mary (nee Hashimoto) for 68 and a half years, father of Ken, Christine, Grace, Mark and Muriel. Favourite grandfather of Stephanie, Christopher, Sarah, Leah, David, Celine and Stephan and father-in-law of Matt and Brian. First Canadian-Japanese expat in Japan to receive a government loan to return to Canada post World War II. Ballroom dancing champion in Tokyo and Kendo master who introduced this Japanese martial art of swordsmanship to eastern Canada. Opened the first Kendo dojo in Toronto on March 20, 1964. Through Kendo, established innumerable people-to-people ties between Canada and Japan, many of which continue to flourish today. Managed Maiko Karaoke Lounge of the family owned Furusato Restaurant, the first in Canada and actor with principal roles in &ldquo;The Exile&rdquo; starring Pat Morito and &ldquo;Hostage for a Day&rdquo; with John Candy. Friends may call at the Turner &amp; Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. Etobicoke (between Islington and Kipling Aves), Etobicoke, 416-231-2283, on Sunday, August 4 from 2-5 pm and Monday, August 5, from 6-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Philip&rsquo;s Anglican Church, located at 25 St. Phillips Road, Etobicoke, 416-247-5181, on Tuesday, August 6 at 10 am followed by a private cremation.
