In Celebration of

Kelly Meehan

September 28, 1952 -  May 10, 2025

Our guiding light, Kelly Meehan (nee Higgins), died Saturday following an undetected heart attack. Shock and sorrow have shaken all who knew her vibrant and tireless spirit. Beloved wife (50 years) of Mike, adored mother of Sarah (Daniel), Emily, and Mike Jr, deeply loving and playful Gramma Kelly to her darlings Benjamin and Phoebe. Predeceased by her parents Tom and Betty, whom she cared for until they passed; sister and friend to Harlene, Michael, and Mark, a source of grace. Beloved sister-in-law, aunt, cousin to large extended family. Friend to so many through bridge, golf, gardens, and her dedication to the community. A young graduate of the University of Toronto, Kelly started her career at J Walter Thompson, then became a producer for the Fraser Kelly Show on CFTO-TV. When the kids were young, she was an active Etobicoke volunteer through toy libraries, Canada Blooms, community issues, and multiple projects at St Gregory's School. She later studied landscape design then ran her own successful gardening business for many years. She grew things. She nurtured plants and people back to health. She lived a life of service to others. She loved reading, going to the theatre, absurd humour, great TV, family games, paddles on the Humber, walks through High Park... but most of all she helped people. She was our shelter from all storms, our fiercest protector, always putting her loved ones first no matter the time or her own needs. In lieu of flowers consider planting your own for the bees and butterflies, and learning about the signs of female heart attack. I knew Mrs. Meehan since I was a teenager, and over all these years, what stays with me most is her incredible curiosity about life. She had this restless energy - always thinking, always questioning, always discovering something new.

I can still see her standing in her beloved garden, sharing its story with the same wonder each time. Her wicked laugh when someone told a perfect joke. The way she glowed at her 25th anniversary celebration. Her pure radiance when she spoke about her grandchildren.

She was never still. Always reading something, always ready with advice and wisdom. Her home was a reflection of her spirit - books everywhere, family memories covering every surface, and love so present you could feel it the moment you walked through the door.

What a profound loss. What a remarkable woman.
