John Rodger Dornan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, in Mississauga, Ontario. Born on January 26, 1940, in Paisley, Scotland, John lived a life rich with love and laughter that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
John was the devoted husband of Mary Dornan for over four decades. He is survived by his daughters Lynda Fort (Adam), Tracey Burns (Callum), Robyn Dornan (Mike Arenovich), and son Ryan Dornan. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Liam Fort; Rhea Fort; Braden Burns; Carter Arenovich; and Chloe Arenovich—each one holding a very special place in his heart.
A man of many interests and talents, John found joy in soccer from an early age—a passion he carried throughout his life as both player and fan. He was also a loyal supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. Whether it was windsurfing along Lake Huron, skiing down snowy slopes during winter vacations with family members by his side or dancing to lively music at gatherings—his zest for life was infectious.
Professionally accomplished as a managing engineer at Kilborn/SNC Lavalin for many years before retirement, John's work ethic mirrored the dedication he showed to every aspect of his life. His Scottish heritage remained close to him always; he often reminisced about growing up surrounded by rolling hills while sharing stories that brought smiles to those around him.
Family meant everything to John. He loved nothing more than gathering together for meals filled with hearty laughter or embarking on adventures across Canada and beyond—always seeking new experiences while creating lasting bonds among relatives near and far.
He is predeceased by brothers Billy Dornan, Alex Dornan and Jim Dornan—all whom he held dear throughout their lives together.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13th at Turner & Porter Neweduk Chapel located at 1981 Dundas St W., Mississauga—a fitting tribute where friends can come together not only to mourn but celebrate this remarkable man's extraordinary journey through life.
In lieu of flowers please consider making donations towards local charities supporting Dementia research.
