James ("Jim") Walker passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Throughout each and every one of his 84 years, Jim loved his life, his family and his friends. In his early 20’s, Jim arrived on the shores of Canada from Belfast, Northern Ireland, with nothing more than a cardboard suitcase, his love of people, desire to conquer the world and his Irish charm. His people skills and business acumen eventually led Jim to the position of CEO and President of Valvoline Oil and STP. While Jim built a full life in Canada with family, business, traveling, and golf he never forgot his Irish roots. A wonderful orator, whether standing at a church pulpit or sitting around a kitchen table, Jim loved to tell stories especially about growing up on Mayo Street in Belfast with his parents and four brothers all of whom he loved dearly. He also loved to sing his favorite Irish folk songs around the house everyday in his beautiful Irish tenor voice. An avid golfer and member of the Brampton Golf Club for 34 years, Jim rarely missed an opportunity to play a round of golf with his beloved wife of 53 years, Pearl, and their many friends. Jim was also steadfast in his faith and was an active member of the Community of Christ. He was a much loved husband, adored father, cherished grandfather, beloved brother, admired uncle, and steadfast friend. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Pearl Walker (nee Jack); daughters Elizabeth Tracy (Scott Musmanno) and Lynn (Robert Parkhill); his brother John "Jackie" and his wife Joyce; and grandchildren Arielle Kieran, Sean Kieran, Olivia Musmanno and Sam Musmanno. Jim will also be sorely missed by Robert Parkhill's sons, R.J. and Mark, his cousins, as well as Pearl's brother, sisters, in-laws, and over 30 nieces and nephews in Canada and Ireland. Jim is predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and John and his brothers Tom, Ronald and Eric. We will miss him tremendously. Until we meet again, God bless you.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 at Community of Christ, 84 Old Burnhamthorpe Rd. Toronto, Ontario and join us afterwards for a luncheon celebration of Jim’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity "World Accord" or the ALS Society.
