<div itemprop="description"> <p> October 21, 1921 &ndash; October 26, 2012 </p> <p> ARCT in Singing-Solo Performer, University of Toronto 1949 </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> On Friday morning Jackie decided Dill had waited long enough... </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> We are very sad to announce that our beautiful song bird passed away in Owen Sound, just as she was setting off into her 92nd year. Everyone who knew her was uplifted by her warmth, her light, and her positive attitude, right up to the end. Jackie was a caring school teacher, a gifted vocalist and long time Kingsway-Lambton Church Choir member, a wonderful wife, mom, nana, and friend. And a pretty darned good lawn bowler too. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Jackie suffered her many losses with grace and dignity. She was the youngest of 3 daughters born to Archie Benallick and Kathleen Lindsay in Guelph. When Jackie was a few months old, her sister Elizabeth tragically drowned. Her mother passed away just 3 years later. Her brother Bill died as a young man in a car accident shortly before the birth of his daughter. Her father and step mother died before their time in a house fire. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> After her mother&rsquo;s death the family moved to Niagara Falls, living with Jackie&rsquo;s beloved Grandma and Grandpa Lindsay. Archie married Vi Henry, and they gave Jackie and her big sister Annabelle (predeceased) another sister, Bev (predeceased), and brother Bill. Eventually, the family moved to Fenwick to run a general store. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> All the while, Jackie pursued her passion of music, studying voice with George Lambert and Godfrey Ridout, and earning her Associateship at the Royal Conservatory of Music in 1949. Her first job in 1939 found her teaching students who were as old as she, in a one-room country school in the Niagara Peninsula.&nbsp; Next she took a placement at Humber Heights School in Weston, where she met the love of her life, fellow teacher (Arthur) Dill McKerihen (predeceased 2006). They married on April 22, 1946 and babies followed&hellip;all in their own good time: Bob, Steve, and Kathleen.&nbsp; Fast forward and precious grand-babies arrived (eight in nine years!): Chris, Greg, and Jeff (Bob/Kate Fisher), Kelly, Lisa, and Adam (Steve/Cathy Lewis) and Jenna and Jacob (Kathleen/Jeff Combee).&nbsp; </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Jackie will be greatly missed by so many cherished friends and family too numerous to name - you know who you are!&nbsp; Thanks to all who showed Jackie so much love over the years and particularly during the last few difficult months. Special thanks to Tracey McKay and also to the wonderful staff at Central Place for their loving care of Jackie. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> &ldquo;May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way&hellip;&rdquo; </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Friends may call at the Turner &amp; Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere east of the Jane subway from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral Service will be held at Kingsway Lambton United Church, 85 The Kingsway, on Wednesday&nbsp; October 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> In lieu of flowers please give to the Kingsway-Lambton United Church Outreach Program, or a charity of your choice. </p> </div>
