Irena "Rena" Pittas-Simon
August 2, 1944 - October 15, 2015
Irena Pittas-Simon passed away peacefully on October 15, 2015 surrounded by family and friends who loved and cherished her as freely and deeply as she loved and cared for them. Rena lavished attention on everyone close to her. She asked for only hugs in return and it was so very easy to be pampered by her. Rena was 71 years old, born in Cyprus, educated in the UK and Wisconsin, taught in Halifax, and for the past 35 years was a wine importer and homemaker in Mississauga and Toronto. Rena was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who spent her prime loving and spoiling her daughter Katerina and husband Peter. She was an inventive gourmet cook, a discerning gourmande and wine-lover, permissive dog lover, world traveler and xenophile, opinionated observer of politics and social justice, relentless hiker, natural photographer, and practiced shopper. And while she indulged passionately in all that, she touched and made each person near her feel unique, special and loved. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 115 Bond Street, Toronto ON M5B 1Y2. Interment Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Contributions in Rena’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.com.
