It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Michael Mably, who left us on February 24th at the age of 65. Greg was a beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Greg died of heart disease and went peacefully while composing music. He will be deeply missed.
Greg was born September 11, 1960, in Toronto, Ontario. He grew up surrounded by family and friends. He was known by those close to him as a guitarist, musician and artist with an eclectic and discerning taste. He loved old movies, a wide range of musical genres and great design in all its forms.
Professionally, Greg was an artist, illustrator, graphic designer, and educator. He was a graduate of Ontario College of Art (now OCAD University) and was an instructor in OCAD U’s illustration program for more than 20 years. As an educator he was known for his keen eye, soft-spoken manner, and impeccable taste. Former students and colleagues recall his gentle humour and unwavering mentorship. His work appeared in numerous publications, and his clients’ included corporations and institutions such as The New York Times, ESPN, and Microsoft. Greg was a pioneer; he worked in digital media long before it was popular and his courage and progressiveness continued throughout his professional life.
Greg was predeceased and dearly loved by his mother Sheila Cameron Mably and father Constante “Ronald” Mably. He is survived by his siblings Steve, Laura and Adam, his in-laws Paul and Sonia, his nieces Jenna, Madeline, Olivia and Caitlin and nephews Sebastian and Alexander as well as many extended family members and friends.
Greg was a dearly loved uncle and brother. He felt an uncle’s love for the first time with the birth of his niece Madeline. And that love only grew with the addition of the nieces and nephews that followed. He enjoyed the sense of wonderment that his nieces and nephews shared with him. He was the cool, fun, easy-going uncle and he often said that spending time with them was what made him happiest. He was a solid, good, kind, and gentle person. He could be relied upon and was always there when you needed him. He was known by all for his dry sense of humour, mischievous wit, and intelligence.
Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto), on Monday, March 9, 2026 from 2 p.m. until time of Celebration of Life at 3 p.m.
From there we will make our way to The Swan pub (2205 Bloor St. W) for a wake in Greg’s honor where friends and family can share a drink, food, and memories.
Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke foundation in Greg Mably’s memory.
May he rest in peace and be forever remembered in our hearts.
