Gioconda was a rare and beautiful soul. She was a loving wife of 56 years to her beloved husband Cesare (passed 2018) with whom she is now re-united. A most loving mother to her children Pierina (son in law Martin) and Enzo. She was the most amazing Nonna to her grandchildren Kyle, Michaela, William and Leo, whom she loved to no end.
She is predeceased by her parents Giovanni and Concetta Patrone and her siblings Fiore, Aulindo, Bianca, Maria, Guido, Lorenzo and Sigfrido. She is survived by her one remaining sibling and youngest sister Elvira.
Gioconda loved life and laughing. She loved people and making people laugh. With her disarming smile she had a wonderful gift of engaging people, making them smile and feel good. She had a strong talent for limerick and a silver tongue, ready with an appropriate response in any situation. She loved eating, cooking delicious food and sharing it with her favourite people. She took such joy in nature, plants and flowers. With the greenest thumb one can imagine she could make anything grow and thrive. Most people don’t know that she had a beautiful singing voice and found such joy and comfort in singing. Her voice was well known throughout her village and was in high demand especially when there was work to be done on the land. The ‘campagnoli’ constantly coaxed her to sing. This made the work more tolerable and the days go by faster apparently. It was very common to hear Gioconda singing or reciting one of many limericks. It was amazing how she could remember all the words. Gioconda was a fiercely loyal person that one could count on. Those in her inner circle knew her to always be reliable and true because her loyalty came from the heart. A devout Catholic, Gioconda found great comfort in prayer. She spent much time in daily meditation dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mother Mary, her patron saint Padre Pio and her Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ.
Dearest Gioconda, you will be missed enormously. Your light, your love and your devotion to those you loved leaves us better and stronger for having known you. You have always been a source of comfort, love and compassion for all. Go safely now. Go with love in your heart. May you always be at peace. You are so dearly loved. You are in our hearts and our minds, and we will carry you with us as we move forward with our lives. Everything you have done is still done.
