Born July 9, 1951, in Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, to Wasyl Hnatiuk and Evelyn (née Ross) Hnatiuk.
For 28 years, Evanna shared her life with her beloved husband, the late Rev. Fr. Michael Luchka. Together, they built a home rooted in faith, family, and love. She was a devoted mother to Michael Luchka (Jason Chellew) and Larysa Sereda (Andrij Sereda), and the proud grandmother of Jacob and Zachary. She was a caring sister to Michael Hnatiuk, her late sister-in-law, Tina Hnatiuk, her brother-in-law Rev. Fr. John Barszczyk, and late sister-in-law, Marion Barszczyk, and aunt to Alexander (Khrystina Barszczyk), Giancarlo, Paul, and Alexandra (Mark Bowden).
Evanna was the heartbeat of her family and the kind of caregiver who never waited to be asked for help - she simply showed up.
Her career in health care as an office administrator for family physicians reflected her natural gift for organization, compassion, and kindness. Outside of work, she gave her time as a volunteer in nursing homes and long-term care facilities, bringing comfort and assistance to those who needed it most.
Her passions added colour to her life and joy to those around her. A lifelong sports enthusiast, she cheered on the Blue Jays, Maple Leafs, and Toronto Raptors. She filled her home with music, especially the harmonies of the Bee Gees, and her garden always bloomed under her attentive care. Her love for animals was as deep as her love for people.
Proud of her Ukrainian heritage, she was actively involved in youth groups, sang in choirs, danced in ensembles, enjoyed cooking and baking – helping to keep traditions alive with grace and dedication.
Evanna’s legacy is one of love in action.
She will be remembered not only for what she did, but for how she made people feel: valued, cared for, and loved beyond measure.
Though her hands are now still, the warmth they gave will forever remain with those whose life she touched. Her laughter echoes in our memories, her love lives on in our hearts, and her spirit — steadfast and bright—will guide us always.
