Doug was born on October 13, 1933 in Castor Alberta, the oldest in a family of 4 children. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of 18 where he met his future wife (Shirley) at Penhold Station in Alberta. He was later transferred to Trenton Ontario where his service included training pilots during the Korean conflict. At the end of his enlistment, the family moved to Streetsville where he joined Air Canada flying a progression of airplanes until his retirement after 34 years. Doug also found time to serve as a councillor for the Town of Streetsville.

Doug loved to travel and he and Shirley spent the majority of their retirement years visiting countries throughout the world. Also, never one to shy away from a challenge, although not knowing what they were doing, they bought a truck and trailer and spent 10 years RVing across North America and in the process making numerous lifelong friends.

Family was everything to Doug and he believed that families that supported each other especially during difficult times grew even stronger. Doug is survived by his 3 sisters, Karen, Laine and Lynn, Shirley, his wife of 70 years, their 3 daughters (and spouses): Joan (David), Susan (Edgardo) and Janet (Frank), their 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Douglas Donald Spencer, a man of principle who lived life with determination, integrity, love and joy.
