Carol Robinson (nee Dewhirst) passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Carol was the beloved wife of Donald and loving mother of Donald Edward and Gregory James. She was an extraordinary mother-in-law to Megan Enns Robinson and pending mother-in law to Greg’s fiancée, Sabrina Shelly. Cherished grandmother of Nathaniel and Grace. Dear sister of Margaret Davis and the late John Tytler (Joan). Treasured daughter of the late Mary (2008) and Ronald Dewhirst (1977).
Carol was born in Bournemouth England in 1950 and emigrated to Canada with her parents the following year. She grew up in Etobicoke, attending Scarlet Heights Collegiate and graduating from the University of Toronto in 1972. Her first job was with the TD Bank where she excelled and became a manager and then a regional supervisor. After graduation, she also joined the Boulevard Club where she met her future husband, Don, at a sailing race. The mutual attraction was immediate and they were married just thirteen weeks after their first date. Carol and Don have stayed active members of the Club for the past 50 years and raised both sons there. They are also members of the sailing section and have enjoyed many years on their sail boat.
After the birth of Gregory, Carol left the bank and started a career at Humber College teaching banking and various other business courses for many years. At one point during this period in her life, she was teaching, taking care of a mother with Alzheimer’s, working on an MBA at the University of Toronto (Rotman) graduating on the Dean’s list in 1997, raising two young active boys and covering for a husband who was travelling for business, all at the same time. She was a fearless defender and advocate of her two sons who she adored. She was a Tiger Mom before the term became commonplace.
After this hectic period in her life, she joined the family business and became both an equal and strategic partner with Don in guiding and growing Lynx Systems Inc. Over the next few years both sons joined the business and with her influence, the company has continued to grow into a successful consulting firm. The opportunity for Carol and her family to work together on a daily basis has made the family extremely close and gave her so much happiness. The birth of her two grandchildren in 2017 and 2019 made her life seem complete. She also loved her grand-dog, Semuc, and Semuc basked in Carol’s love of animals. Carol loved travelling with Don and they had some amazing trips to Europe with the Great Lakes Choir and she got to sing in both Notre Dame and the Church of the Madeline in Paris and St Paul’s Cathedral in Rome.
The sudden loss of this amazing, talented and beautiful soul is devastating to both family and friends alike. If you had a problem, Carol was the person who always had the solution. She will be missed by everyone who came into her life. Her sense of humour, kindness and friendliness allowed her to make friends everywhere she went.
