In Celebration of

Bruce Robert McDonald

September 9, 1943 -  May 6, 2025

With great sadness the family announces that Bruce Robert McDonald, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Toronto, after a long battle with Parkinson's Plus.

He was born on September 9, 1943 to Florence and Robert McDonald in Toronto. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Mary, and his beloved daughter, Laura. He leaves behind his sister-in-law Gail, nephew Roger (Carrie), niece Wendy, great-niece Emily and great-nephews Liam and Andrew. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Fred Beal.

Bruce was a graduate of U of T Law School (class of ’69) and he practiced law at Crown Life and Manulife for 25 years. He was very active in the International Claims Association. Bruce was also the author of text books on Canadian Insurance Law and Financial and Estate Planning. After leaving Manulife he conducted a successful consulting business for law firms, insurance agents, brokers and insurers.

Bruce was very athletic and played a variety of sports but golf was his passion. A trip to the Masters was a highlight, after winning tickets in a lottery.

He was a gentleman and had a wide interest in the arts and travel. On many trips he was lovingly nicknamed Brochure Bruce as he researched the next excursion.

The family wishes to thank all the PSW’s that helped Bruce through his illness, especially Willy and Clayton.

Cremation has taken place and he will rest with his parents at Park Lawn Cemetery.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at a later date.

Bruce and I and Mary were long time friends since Bruce and I met at Law School in 1966. Bruce was always gracious despite his Parkinson's illness. A highlight was going with Bruce and our wives to the Masters Golf tournament in Augusta Georgia which Bruce arranged.
I'll miss speaking on the phone with him. Rest in peace, Bruce.
