William Richard Battersby, born March 19, 1948, in Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully in Orangeville, Ontario. He was the beloved father of Sue-Anne (partner Ron, granddaughter Nicole) and Karen (partner Murray, grandchildren Peter, Jordan, and Trevor). He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Battersby and Bessie Battersby (Dixon), and his sister, Joanne Mauthe. He is survived by his siblings Doris Runicman, Bob Battersby, and Al Battersby.
Bill was a man of generosity, always ready to lend a hand or an ear—whether it meant building decks, fixing cars, or simply being there for someone who needed him. In his younger years, he played recreational hockey and remained a lifelong passionate supporter of the Chicago Blackhawks.
A true lover of the water, Bill and his family spent countless happy days boating on Georgian Bay, exploring islands such as Beausoleil, Beckwith, and Giant’s Tomb. He delighted in taking family and friends on boating excursions, sharing the joy of the outdoors and creating cherished memories.
Over the years, Bill called many places home, including Etobicoke, Kleinburg, North Bay, Milton, and finally Shelburne, where he spent his last days. He will be remembered for his love of family, his generous spirit, and his enthusiasm for sports and boating.
A private service will be held at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel.
