Violet Moyo (née Sepako) was born on 26th November 1947 in Mphoengs, Zimbabwe. “Mommy”, as we affectionately called her, was the youngest daughter of Gaontsiti and Mokalaka Sepako. She was nicknamed “Sikanyana” by her siblings, meaning “little girl” as she was the youngest of 13 children. She spent her formative years in Nkedile village. She then completed her schooling at Dombodema in 1966, before completing her first teaching certification in 1968 at Hope Fountain Mission.

She met her husband, Elliot Mfazo Puteho Moyo, “Daddy” around 1969-1970, and they married on the 6th of May 1971 in Bulawayo. The couple settled in Mpopoma, Bulawayo and were blessed with their first two sons, Elton and Brian while in Mpopoma. In 1981, they moved into a new home in Montrose, Bulawayo. They were further blessed with 3 more boys, Mukani, Nyaladzi, and Simisani. She continued her diploma studies, while teaching at various primary schools in Bulawayo, rising to become a school head. She retired in 2003 after 30 years of service as an educator. In 2008 Mommy moved to Toronto with Daddy and made Canada her new home.

Mommy was a most loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a committed Christian who embodied the values of faith, love, care, togetherness, excellence, and lifelong learning. She passed away in Toronto on 13th December 2024 surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, five sons and seven grandchildren. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of her beloved family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor Street West), Toronto on Sunday, 22nd December from 2-6 p.m.

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church (227 Bloor Street East), Toronto on Monday, 23rd December at 11 a.m.

Interment to follow the Funeral Service at Park Lawn Cemetery (2857 Bloor Street West), Toronto.
