It is with great sadness that the family of Teresa Marion Francis announces her passing on Thursday, November 7, 2024. She died peacefully and with God’s Grace in her sleep after many difficult years living with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She taught us how to live and be courageous in the face of suffering.
Teresa, affectionately known as Tia, was born in Karachi in 1936 into a loving family. Tia, her twin sister Philomena (Phe) along with her sisters Istafia and Cyrina enjoyed a happy, active social life among friends and family. It was there she met her husband Frank and, together for 45 years, they led a beautiful life.
In 1964, with their two children Lynn and Gwen, they emigrated to Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada. Kaye and Lisa soon followed, and Teresa devoted herself to establishing their new home and raising their growing family. Through multiple moves in Quebec and Ontario, Tia enjoyed decorating her spotless homes, preparing delicious meals, and keeping up with the latest fashions. Tia and Frank enjoyed a wide circle of lifelong friends as they built their lives in Canada.
Once her children were grown, Tia enrolled at Georgian College and studied Office Administration. She was eager to get back to work, purchased a red Chevy Chevette, and took pleasure in establishing her own career outside of the home. Tia loved being with others and thrived at work. In 1990, they moved to Mississauga where Frank retired, and in their next chapter travelled extensively, were active members of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, and ultimately welcomed 6 grand children. Sadly, in 2003 Frank passed away and Tia called on her strong faith to push forward. During this time her C.W.L. community enabled her to share her faith through volunteer work in Catholic schools and the Parish. Later in life line dancing, bingo, and casino bus trips were also a highlight. Her daughters counted on her generosity and willingness to help in a myriad of ways with their own growing families.
Tia was a proud and supportive mother to her children: Lynn (Kevin), Percival (deceased), Gwen, Kaye (David), Lisa (Pasquale) and a beloved Nana to Matthew (Cherylann), Michael, Bianca, Percy, Ella and Grace. She was devoted to her family: her sisters; Philomena Athaide (Raymond), Istafia de Souza (John White, deceased), Cyrina de Souza and sister-in-law Jeanne Francis. Tia was predeceased by her sisters-in-law Joyce Wolfe (Adrian, deceased) and Marie Mileham (Frank, deceased). She was a beloved Aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the Yorkshire Home Area Staff at Malton Village and to her devoted Caregivers.
Tia will be deeply missed by all who knew her and her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, a testament to a life well lived.
