Susilla Mohamed was born in a small village in Trinidad, the eldest of seven children, and cherished her family deeply. She met her husband, Carlvin, in 1964 at a village fair, and they were reunited in Canada in 1967, building a long life together.
Susilla devoted her career to education, specializing in teaching and supporting children with learning disabilities. She served with the Etobicoke Board of Education for thirty years as a teacher, guidance counsellor, and Vice Principal, and represented the Board at conferences in the United States. She also completed a Master’s degree at the University of Toronto and was appointed to the Ontario Judicial Council, where she was the only non-lawyer member. Her colleagues and students remembered her as both strict and fair.
Outside of her professional life, Susilla appreciated music and the arts, carrying a deep curiosity and respect for culture.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Carlvin Mohamed, who misses her dearly; her son Lauren and his wife Lisbeth; and her grandson; and by her many siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Susilla’s life was marked by service, perseverance, and a steadfast commitment to helping others.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be most appreciated.
