Susan Worden Yancu, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and teacher, passed away on September 5, 2025 at the age of 81 with her husband Alex, son Grant and grandson Kenneth by her side.
Born in August 1944 in Manchester, UK to Robert and Nora Cleaver, Susan was sister of Robert Cleaver, and niece of her cherished Uncle Jack. In her later years, Susan spent 38 wonderful years with Alex Yancu, with whom she shared a loving partnership, becoming married in 1999 and renewing their vows in 2009. She was previously married to David Worden, who passed away in 1985.
Susan was the devoted mother of Grant (Eleanor) and Marc (Marilisa), and a proud grandmother to Kenneth, Nathan, Erik, Klara, Aidan, and Ryder Worden—each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She dedicated her professional life to education, inspiring many students as a French teacher at John McCrae Public School in Scarborough. Her passion for language and learning left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of being in her classroom.
Since 2011, Susan and Alex made their home at Palace Pier, where they enjoyed the beauty of the waterfront and the warmth of their community and the many friends who enriched their lives.
Susan will be remembered for her grace and intelligence; love of travelling, live music and theatre; interest in politics; love of good food and wine; and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, Susan’s family asks friends and family to consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
