Scott possessed a profoundly warm and bright spirit that warmly embraced others, making him truly one of a kind. He was known by everyone as a remarkably kind, gentle soul who would literally give the shirt off his back. His magnificent presence would light up the room, amplified by his infectious laugh and best sense of humor. What truly defined him was his selfless nature; he was always putting others before himself. You could often see him quietly sitting in admiration of all those around him, and when you looked deeply into his eyes, you could see pure joy and kindness. His heart was filled with love and happiness for others, and he took his greatest joy in others' happiness, rather than seeking any praise upon himself. This pure devotion was especially true when he looked upon his wife Danovia, and children Eliajah (wife Zoe), Gabriel, and Konvalia, a clear reflection of his immense love for family after 32 happy years together.
He found great passion and camaraderie in his dedication to the Ukrainian community, particularly through dance. Scott was a keen Ukrainian dancer, beginning with the Lamont dancers and Kupalo, before joining Shumka Ukrainian Dancers (Edmonton). His connection to this community grew immensely; through Shumka and Arkan, he had the opportunity to tour and perform in places like Taiwan, Mexico, Turkey, China, Ukraine, Brazil, and extensively across Canada and the US. This passion continued as he helped to run The Ukrainian Academy of Dance Inc., Arkan Dance Company, and Stefura Dance Studios in Toronto. To those who danced with him, he was seen as a person larger than life in stature but kind and gentle in heart—a true 'gentle giant.' Beyond the stage, he was a long-time high-crane operator in the GTA, and a devoted member of the Sri Sri Sri Shivabalayogi Maharaj Meditation Centre.
He was happiest working on his passions: riding his motorcycle, collaborating on various projects with his brothers and father on the farm near Lamont and Chipman, Alberta, and using his skilled hands to help his family by renovating three homes with his wife Danovia, two dance studios, and two meditation centres. Scott always uplifted others, and this beautiful legacy ensures that his memory is eternal.
As we say goodbye to the physical body of Scott, let us recognize that we are not losing the essence of who he was, but may we honour him by embracing the incredible legacy he left behind. Let us embody the light that he brought to this world; let us take a piece of Scott forward in each of us and commit to brightening the world just as he did. Today, the world has lost a shining light of pure humanity and kindness, and it is up to all of us to uplift his memory by continuing to live with the same selfless love and gentle spirit that he demonstrated every single day.
