It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Ryland Luis Correa, who left us peacefully in hospice on March 27, at the age of 28. His parents, brother, sister, and baby niece were by his side, just as he would have wanted.
Ryland was the beloved son of Cathy and Jorge, a loving brother to Bethany (Dan) and Carter, and a proud uncle to his baby niece. He was a cherished grandson to Gail and Murray Shapcott and was predeceased by his Abuelita and Abuelito, Lillian and Jose Correa. Ryland was also deeply loved by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, especially his close cousin Stephanie.
Ryland lived with incredible strength and resilience after being diagnosed with a brain tumor at a young age. Over the course of his life, he underwent many treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays with courage, humour, and determination. Despite everything he faced, Ryland was known for his joy, his deep love for others, and his unforgettable smile.
Ryland cared deeply for his family and always wanted to be part of whatever everyone else was doing. He had a special bond with his family dogs, especially Cooper, whom he walked every day until Cooper passed in 2022. He later continued that daily tradition with Ringo.
Ryland had a passion for cooking and loved being in the kitchen with his mom, especially making and enjoying desserts. He loved food, took great joy in cooking for others, and graduated from Niagara College in Culinary Management.
Food, music, and being together were some of the things that made him happiest. He especially cherished time spent with his mom, with whom he shared an incredibly special bond built through years of cooking, camping, concerts, hospital visits, hiking trails, and so much time spent together. They were truly best friends.
Ryland loved the outdoors and spent many years camping, canoeing, and hiking with his family. One of his favourite places was the Orphan Lake Trail, which he hiked many times with them. He also attended Camp Trillium and Camp Oochigeas as a camper and later
returned as a counsellor, wanting to give back to a place that meant so much to him.
Ryland had the loudest laugh in the room and loved jokes. He never wanted to miss out on anything and was always the one trying to stay up the latest so he wouldn’t miss a moment with the people he loved.
Ryland will be remembered for his joy, his love for his family, his laughter, his strength, and the way he made people feel. He brought people together, loved deeply, and lived fully despite the challenges he faced. He will be missed beyond words and loved forever.
The family will receive visitors at Turner & Porter "Neweduk-Erin Mills" Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W. Mississauga, on Thursday, April 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Merciful Redeemer Parish, 2775 Erin Centre Blvd., Mississauga, on Friday, April 10th at 10:00 a.m.
The family kindly requests that attendees do not wear black to the funeral home or the Mass. Ryland lived a vibrant, beautiful life, and we would like to celebrate him in colour.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Ian Anderson House, whose care and compassion were invaluable to Ryland and his family.
To honour Ryland and the impact he had on so many people, the family is creating a memory book filled with stories, memories, photos, and messages from those who knew and loved him. If you would like to contribute, please send your memory, story, photo, or
message to rememberingryland@gmail.com. The family is deeply grateful for your contributions as we continue to celebrate and remember Ryland’s life.
