In Celebration of

Ralph Edward Cunningham

April 22, 1941 - January 19, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Edward Cunningham, 84, of Mississauga, who left us suddenly and unexpectedly on January 19, 2026.

Born in Peterborough, Ontario, on April 22, 1941, Ralph was the beloved son of Wilfred Joseph and Olive Marceline Cunningham. As a young man, he and his family—including his sisters Patricia Spaapen (née Cunningham) and Marie Butler (née Cunningham), and his late brother Joseph—moved to Toronto, where they established their permanent home. Ralph went on to enjoy a long and respected career with Huntsman Products, where he worked until his retirement.

Ralph was a gentle and caring uncle to his nieces and nephews: Michelle Butler, Charlene Brooke (née Butler), Lee-Anne Cutler (née Cunningham), Stacey Muhs (née Cunningham), John Spaapen, Cathy McKinley (née Spaapen), Dana Spaapen, and Suzanne Spaapen. His love for family extended even further when, later in life, he met his soulmate Marie Villeneuve. They married in 1993, and Ralph became a cherished part of her family, embracing her children—Michel Villeneuve (deceased), André Villeneuve, Richard Villeneuve, and Nicole Maitland (née Villeneuve)—as his own. To their children, Ralph was a loving grandfather to Sara, Erica, Jacqueline, Jean-Pierre, Madeleine, and Zacharie, and he delighted in the joy of his seven great-grandchildren.

Ralph will be remembered as a principled, kind, and gentle man whose company was always a pleasure. Beyond his family, his greatest passion was golf. Whether watching tournaments on television or spending time on the course with his dear friend John, Ralph found joy in the game and in the friendships it fostered.

In May 2025, Ralph endured the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife Marie. His devotion to her, especially in her final months, was an inspiration to all who witnessed his unwavering kindness and gentleness.

Ralph’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Details regarding his celebration of life, taking place in the Spring, will be shared with family and friends in the coming weeks.
