It is with the greatest of sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter William Luchko on January 29, 2026 at the age of 36.
Peter is survived by his loving mother Donna and sister Meagan (Jacob Gorzhaltsan), his grandmother Phyllis McKibbin, his aunts and uncles Vivian, Diane, Patricia McLeod, George (Pam), Rose Anne Wady (Ross), Jim, Wayne (Laura), Karen McKibbin (Steve Ridout) and Marie McKibbin (Jeff Kavanagh), many cousins and a wide circle of friends who were touched by his pure heart. He was predeceased by his father Marvin and his grandparents Peter and Ann Luchko and Norman McKibbin and uncles David (Liz) and Victor (Diane).
Born on November 13,1989, Peter brought tremendous joy and warmth to everyone who knew him, overcoming life’s challenges with a resilient spirit, incredible strength and a pure desire to please and participate in daily events.
Peter’s life was enriched by the love and devotion of his mother, father and sister, his extended family and the support of community programs including those from the Mississauga Storm Basketball, Special Olympics and especially Applewood Centre for Adult Learning where he spent many happy days with his friends, dedicated staff and caregivers.
Peter taught those around him profound lessons in patience, kindness, and unconditional love. He had the most infectious giggle with a playful sense of humour that would bring a smile to anyone around. He kept everyone’s secret, he never had a cross word to say, and he showed kindness to all. He was our role model and super hero.
Peter and his sister Meagan had a deep connection through Music. He loved to attend her concerts and was always ready to participate whether by singing, drumming along, conducting the music with his hands, or just his enthusiastic reactions "Wow" and "Bravo!" which would always bring a smile to all. He also loved riding his bicycle around the neighbourhood, giving him a chance to chat with neighbours who all welcomed Peter’s company with warmth and kindness.
Peter found happiness in simple pleasures like watching Jeopardy, going to Tim’s, helping with daily chores, googling his favourite locations, remembering directions, keeping track of his mother’s endless “to do” lists, going to work with his Dad, and spending time shooting hoops. In fact, his basketball skills contributed to his Mississauga Storm team winning several competitions and a spot in the 2014 Vancouver Special Olympics. Peter cherished his many medals and wore them with great pride.
Peter had a remarkable ability to connect with animals. He often spent time just sitting quietly with a dog or cat by his side sharing his love and attention with just a soft touch of his hand.
His family remembers Peter as a sweet and gentle soul who loved family gatherings. “Attention, please” being a familiar refrain as he prepared a toast to the occasion. Peter loved participating in spontaneous games of name that tune or spell this word. Often calling ahead of the other players "Oh, Oh. I got it!" And he always did. Our dear Peter, you enriched us all with your love and you will be forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Applewood Centre for Adult Learning (Applewoodcentre.com), in honour of Peter’s legacy of inspiring others to be kind and see the good in everyone.
A Memorial will be held on February 7, 2026, from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. Mississauga. All who knew Peter are welcome to join in remembering a life that was gifted with immeasurable love.
