It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick Whitney at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto on November 26th, 2024, following a heart attack. He died peacefully with family at his side.
Patrick will be missed by his wife Camie Tang-Chang, children Jane Parker (John) and Jim Whitney (Jane), grandchildren Josh, Hayden, Emily, Brock, and Georgia, “bonus daughters” Theresa and Laura, and siblings Mona, Wilma, Donna, Linda, Rosalie, and Robert. His sister-in-law Heather, friend Mary, nieces Natalie and Aimée, and the van Feggelen family, together with his many other family and friends are grieving his loss. Patrick is pre-deceased by ex-wife Lynn and siblings Fay and Laurie.
Patrick was born on the Miramichi, NB, March 15, 1940 to father James and mother Evelyn. In keeping with his fierce independence, he struck out at an early age and moved to Ontario where he started a career in heavy equipment. Patrick’s innate technical skills, drive, and business acumen led him to take on senior leadership roles.
Patrick always enjoyed the outdoors, loved to read, and was deeply interested in philosophy. He touched many lives beyond his immediate family as a friend and mentor, counsellor, and tower of strength through difficult times for others. Patrick was an integral part of the close-knit Etobicoke community where he and Camie lived for 38 of their 50 years together and developed many close friendships. Patrick was always there to lend a helping hand to his neighbours and to say hello to their 4-legged companions.
Although Patrick will be missed by so many, he was never one for the spotlight and did not want a formal event to mark his passing. Please remember him in your own way and smile.
Donations to St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be welcome.
