It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Orysia Stesky on February 15, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born on May 10, 1952, in Toronto to her loving parents, Mary and Stefan Swerbywus, Orysia grew up surrounded by family, friendship, and laughter. She often reminisced about lively gatherings at her Godfather Peter and Aunt Isabelle’s home — celebrations filled with warmth, stories, and the deep bonds that shaped her lifelong devotion to family.
Orysia attended Humberside Collegiate Institute in Toronto before continuing her education at Centennial College. She trained as a blood technologist and began her professional life working for a doctor, where her attention to detail and caring nature were already evident. She later began working at the Ontario Parliament, where fate introduced her to the love of her life, Jim. Their connection was immediate and undeniable — they were engaged within three months of meeting.
Orysia and Jim were married on October 4, 1980, beginning a beautiful partnership grounded in love, loyalty, and shared purpose. They first settled on Pagehurst Avenue in Mississauga, where they welcomed their son Steven two years later. Three years after that, they were blessed with twin daughters, Andrea and Patricia. As their family grew, so did their home, and they moved to Gullfoot Circle, where Orysia would reside for the remainder of her life.
After becoming a mother, Orysia chose to dedicate herself fully to raising her children. She poured her heart into creating a home filled with structure, laughter, and unwavering support. Friday evenings became a cherished family tradition — tidying the house together before settling in to watch family shows. She was always five steps ahead, anticipating needs before they arose and ensuring her family was cared for in every possible way.
As her children grew, they became deeply involved with Barvinok Ukrainian Dance School, and Orysia enthusiastically joined the executive committee. She devoted countless hours organizing events and supporting the dance community. She never missed a performance at Yarmarok or a year-end concert, cheering proudly from the audience.
Once her children were older, Orysia returned to her professional life as an administrative assistant to a Mississauga City Councillor, a role she held with dedication and professionalism until her retirement. She was known for her bright smile, her natural ability to carry a conversation with anyone, and her fiercely loyal and loving spirit.
Following the passing of her beloved husband Jim on December 22, 2016, Orysia found strength in reconnecting with friends. She enjoyed coffee dates, gatherings, and staying active in her community. She also never missed an opportunity to shop — chances were high you could spot her on any given day browsing the aisles of Dollarama or Walmart.
Her greatest joy in life was her family — especially her cherished grandchildren: Lillian (13), Isabelle (11), Maya (11), Tessa (8), and Jack (5). She treasured every visit, every poolside summer gathering, and every New Year’s getaway to Huntsville to visit Patricia and Jamie. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
In the final year of her life, Orysia faced a courageous battle with cancer. She met this challenge with the same strength, grace, and quiet determination that defined her life. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving children and her brother, held in their presence and in their love.
Orysia is lovingly remembered by her children: Steven (Jennifer), Andrea (Taras), and Patricia (Jamie); her adored grandchildren; her brother Jerry (Lucy); and her many extended family members and dear friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, love, and kindness. Her presence was a steady anchor and her smile a constant comfort. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
