It is with deep sadness that we announce that Michael Joseph Jerome Ryan passed away on September 30, 2025. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Josephine Ryan, of Annagh, Lisnagry, Co. Limerick, Ireland, and his first wife Harriette (née Griffin), Michael is survived by his cherished wife Martha (formerly Fragassi, née Golden), and his children Michelle Ryan, Rosemary Earle (Robin), Angelo Fragassi (Melodie), and Margaret Willis (Kerr). Michael took great joy in the presence and accomplishments of his family, especially his seven grandchildren – James, Emily, and Michael Earle, Frankie and Anthony Fragassi, and Charlotte and Andrew Willis. Michael is also survived by his beloved sister Nora Lonergan (Patrick, also deceased) of Newport, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, and pre-deceased by his dear sisters Margaret Hanly, Eileen Fitzpatrick, Mary Coffey, Sr. Ann Ryan and Joan Ryan, of Limerick and Tipperary. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Goudy (Peter, also deceased), and the Goudy family in Cambridge. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Ireland and the U.S. who mourn his loss.
Michael was a successful businessman in the hydraulics and pneumatics industry during his long working life. He loved good music, told a great story, and was a man of strong faith. As a parishioner of St. Ignatius and St. Francis of Assisi parishes in Mississauga, he served on parish councils, volunteered, and ushered for many years. An active and ardent golfer in his later years, he followed his favourite sports closely, rejoicing in Limerick’s All-Ireland Hurling final wins and Rory McIlroy’s Grand Slam. A support to all his family and friends who described him as a gentleman, he brought the best of his Irish traditions (including as a lifelong Pioneer Association member) to create a life in Canada in the 1960s. He formed true and lifelong friendships and extended compassion and civility to all. And despite recent health challenges, he celebrated good company and shared his love of life with those around him. He will be dearly missed.
The visitation for Michael will be held at Turner & Porter Neweduk Chapel on Monday October 6, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 7, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Mississauga, with reception to follow. Michael’s family wish to extend their special thanks to his support workers in recent years, and to the staff at Trillium Health Partners for their care in his final illness. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Michael’s memory to Parkinson’s Canada to support their work.
