For anyone who had the privilege of knowing Mary, you knew she was smart, determined, and extraordinarily hardworking. True to her nature, she peacefully passed away at home, with family by her side, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, just four days shy
of her 91st birthday.
Predeceased by her husband, Florian, and her furry companion Puppet, Mary leaves behind her five “Googies”—Flo, Gigo, Moika, Kik, and Bunny—who will forever treasure her love and guidance. She was deeply proud of her growing family and embraced her roles as mother-in-law and grandmother with joy. Her legacy continues through Bernadette (Stephen, Meredith, and Jameson), Karen (Ian, William, and Jamie), Monica (Stephen, Carmen, Madeline, and Matthew), Carolyn (Joe, Owen, and Emma), and Florian Thomas.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Marica Varga for her compassion and commitment to honouring Mary’s wish of aging at home. A special thank-you also goes to Tsige, Mary’s personal support worker for the past four years, whose care and kindness made this possible.
A funeral mass, accompanied by her cremated remains, will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, 3055 Bloor Street West, Toronto, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
As expressions of sympathy and in support of her family, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
The distant clink of a teaspoon and the gentle shuffle of a deck of cards will echo in our hearts forever.
