PATTERSON (nee SHARP), MARY MARGARET March 22, 1933 – December 21, 2025.
Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Joined once again with her loving husband of 67 years, Fred. Mary’s memory will be cherished by her great-nephew, Brennan Rossini, his wife, Kathleen and their sons. Mary will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces, Elizabeth (Tim) Nawrot and family; Cathy (Mathew) Paterson and family; her niece and goddaughter, Kristina Patterson (and sons); nephew Douglas Nadeau and family; and niece, Cindy Rossini and family. Mary will also be sorely missed by a large circle of friends and fellow artists. Mary was predeceased by her siblings, James (Margaret) and Robert Sharp as well as her parents, J. Douglas and Margaret Sharp.
Mary was an artist in every sense of the word; she was a painter, a potter (founding Patterson Pottery with Fred), a writer and designer. Her love of words was matched only by her keen sense of humour and her pride in and love for her family and its history. She was a member of the Swansea Horticultural Society, Lawn Bowls Ontario, the Basset Hound Club of Canada and Basset Hound Rescue of Ontario. She could be found at the Etobicoke, Boulevard and West Toronto lawn bowling clubs and served on the board of the Boulevard Club. Her prize gardens brought her a world of joy and added colour to the lives of anyone who saw them!
In their many years together, Mary and Fred shared their love and their home with a long line of dogs and birds and getting an opportunity to see and get kisses from the dogs of family, friends and neighbours never failed to put a smile on Mary’s face!
A sincere and heartfelt thank you is extended to Mary’s care team – particularly Foster, Tenesha, Marjorie, Dora and Bridget - for the love and support they provided to her each day. An immense gratitude is also owed to Dr. Rachel Wortzman and the team at Dorothy Ley Hospice for providing Mary with the ability to remain in her cherished home.
A private interment has taken place and will be followed by a Celebration of Life in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Basset Hound Rescue of Ontario at bassetrescue.ca or to Dorothy Ley Hospice at dlhospice.org/donate/
