In her 102nd year, Lila passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2025, after a very brief illness.
Our hearts are broken but we take comfort in knowing that she has been reunited once again with her one true love and dance partner, her husband of 70 years, Charles Percy (“BUD”) Fowler, who predeceased her in January 2020.
She was a wonderful, loving mom and will always remain in the hearts of her three children and their spouses, Lorne (Johanna), Suzanne (Stephen) and Bruce (Deborah).
Nanny adored and always had the best & biggest hugs for her grandkids, Jamie (Tanya), Charlie (Rachael) and Carly (Amerigo).
She was so proud to become and be a great grandmother to her little darlings, Rori and Taylor and Theo and Enzo.
She had a warm spot in her heart for Bruce and Deborah's children, Mackenzie, Morgan and Marshall, and grandkids, Mason and Reed.
Born on April 17, 1924, in the west end of Toronto, Lila was the eldest of five siblings and big sister to the late Bernadette Pryor (the late Bob), the late Helen Burns (the late Michael), George Ste. Marie (Theresa), and the late Joan Miller.
She was a dear sister-in-law to the late Eileen Chapdelaine (the late Ed), Joan Arthur (the late Ron), and the late Barbara MacKenzie (the late Jim).
Lila leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins on both the Fowler and Ste. Marie sides of the family. She had a special place in her heart for all of them and loved and cared about them just as much as they did her.
Up until her passing, Lila read two daily newspapers and faithfully watched the news every day.
She was smart and witty and able to carry on a conversation about almost anything and everything.
We will remember her for her beautiful paintings, her pumpkin pies and shortbread cookies, how beautifully she & Bud danced together, her kindness and concern for others, her unconditional love and support, and her hugs.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Lila on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 1-4 pm at Turner & Porter, Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga ON.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke.
The family wishes to thank the amazing and compassionate staff at Schlegel Villages in Erin Meadows who took such great care of Lila over the last three and a half years, and to express our gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Credit Valley Hospital who provided care & comfort to Lila during her final days.
