Jocelyn Orlando Heydorn, born on October 11, 1936, in Georgetown, Guyana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025. He was the eldest child of Charles and Elmeira Heydorn and grew up alongside his six siblings. From an early age, Jocelyn took on significant responsibilities within his family, frequently supporting his brothers and sisters and helping them achieve their goals.
Jocelyn’s life was marked by curiosity and strong faith. His career in banking began in Guyana and eventually led him to Trinidad. It was there, while working at the Royal Bank, that he met Joan. They married in 1965 and started a family together. In 1974, Jocelyn and Joan made the significant decision to immigrate to Canada with their three daughters, settling in Mississauga. The following year, their son Richard was born, further enriching their family life.
Jocelyn built a successful career in the financial sector, holding several roles and most notably working for the Federal Business Development Bank of Canada in downtown Toronto. He was widely respected by his colleagues and clients for his integrity, expertise, and strong work ethic.
Family was the foundation of Jocelyn’s life. As a devoted husband to Joan, his wife of more than sixty years, together they built a life centered on respect and enduring love. Jocelyn was a cherished father to Caroline (Paul), Simone (Steve), Beverly (Ron), and Richard (Pamela). He was also a proud grandfather to Andrea, Anthony, Alanna, Marisa, Olivia, Christopher, Andrew, Nicole, Joshua, and Alyssa, and a great- grandfather to Liam, Mason, Alessia, Amelia, and Luca. He is lovingly remembered alongside his son Gerald, who predeceased him in 1973 but remained forever in his heart. Jocelyn’s gentle spirit, compassion, and steadfast commitment to those he loved created a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
Jocelyn’s strong spiritual foundation was evident in the way he lived—with humility and quiet strength. He would often seek the intercession of St. Pio and found comfort in his prayer…“to grant me the graces of the most Blessed Sacrament, heal me and alleviate my wounds and suffering so that I may better serve God”.
Jocelyn’s passion for sports began with playing cricket as a young man. He followed the West Indies team with enthusiasm, celebrating their successes and remaining a loyal supporter through the years. Beyond cricket, Jocelyn’s life was measured not in trophies of his own, but in the thousands of hours he spent on bleachers and in folding chairs. He was his children’s and grandchildren’s most devoted fan, a constant presence at every game or performance, offering a proud smile that told them they were always his first priority.
Jocelyn was known for his kindness, generosity, and the warmth he extended to all. His wisdom, humor, and gentle guidance left an indelible mark on those who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his faith, love and infectious smile will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends, cherished and remembered always.
The Family would like to thank Dr. Mike Bickhram and Zia Barmania, along with the medical and support staff for their continued efforts in caring for Jocelyn.
