JoAnne passed away at Trillium Hospital in Mississauga on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at the age of 82, following a brief illness and complications from heart and lung disease.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 39 years, Gerry McCaffrey, who predeceased her in 2022. JoAnne will be dearly missed by her son James and his wife Claudia, her late son Rick, daughter-in-law Allison, and her cherished grandchildren Evan, Lauren, Colin (Parnia) and Sean.
She was predeceased by her brothers James, Thomas, and Robert, and is survived by dear friend and “sister” Francie Gattie, along with sisters-in-law Dianne, Julianne, Iris, and Fran Low (Larry) and brother in-law John McCaffrey. JoAnne was also predeceased by brother and sisters-in law Patricia and Bernard Boissenault and Joan McCaffrey.
JoAnne was a devoted Aunt to Christine, Colleen (deceased), Joseph, Melanie, Jennifer, Joshua and Kathleen (deceased). She will be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends as well as the Low, Boissenault and McCaffrey nieces, nephews and their families.
Born in Perth, Ontario to Joseph Leo O’Gorman and Mary Teresa Havey, JoAnne spent her early years in Perth, Alliston and Toronto before settling in Mississauga. She dedicated more than 30 years to teaching at both the elementary and high school levels, including a two-year assignment in Jamaica for CUSO International. Teaching fostered lifelong friendships and the beginnings of countless summers traveling from cottage-to-cottage to play bridge together.
JoAnne met the love of her life, Gerry, in 1983, and together they enjoyed many wonderful years filled with travel, time at their cottage at Indian Point, cheering on Toronto sports teams, and spending time with friends and family. Faith was an important part of her life; she and Gerry attended church services for many years and they enjoyed socializing with fellow parishioners. She was a thoughtful and tireless caregiver to Gerry and many others.
JoAnne will be remembered for her fierce generosity and loyalty to family and friends. She was a loving and unifying presence for her family and will be dearly missed.
