It is with a sad heart and tears that we inform you of the sudden passing of beloved Antonio on the morning of January 28th 2026. He was surrounded by his loving family: Ruby (wife), Maria-Renata (daughter), and Roberto (son).
On a recent short trip to his cherished Goa, Antonio unfortunately caught a bacterial infection which quickly progressed into severe pneumonia upon his return to Toronto, Canada.
Antonio was born in Majorda, Goa at his father's (Minguel's) ancestral home and then moved at a young age with family to his mother's (Carlota's) home village of Calangute, Goa. At the age of 18 Antonio moved to Uganda to help his father with hopes of earning money to send back and support his 4 other siblings and mother in Goa. With great struggle and perseverance Antonio was able to elevate himself to become an accountant with the Electricity Board in Kampala, Uganda and still with the purpose of supporting his family in Goa. While in Uganda, Antonio found joy and a passion for community service, serving as General Secretary for many years at the Kampala Goan Institute (KGI), where he met many life-long friends. His skills and service at KGI was later recognized as he was appointed the Chairman of the KGI Centenary Committee.
Like many others, Antonio had to leave Uganda under the dictatorship of Idi Amin which brought him to Toronto, Canada in 1972. Overcoming much adversity he studied accounting at Queen's University which ultimately elevated him to the position of auditor and management for the Ontario Government. Antonio continued his community service acting as General Secretary for the Goan Overseas Association (+15 years) and later President of the Calangute Association of Toronto (+30 years). He is honored as being the first and only president of the Worldwide Goan Association which united all associations across the globe for a celebration in Goa's capital, Panjim.
Until the end, Antonio's heart remained with his faith, his family, and his friends.
