It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved father, José (Joe) de Sousa Pinto, on December 31, 2025, after a brief stay at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. He was 84 years old.
Born in Portugal, he immigrated to Canada in 1968. A gifted master carpenter, he loved his profession until a near-fatal workplace accident in 1991 left him with a severe brain injury, leaving him unable to continue his beloved craft. Against all odds and through determination and hard work, he did his best to overcome day-to-day challenges. He was an example of resilience to those who loved and cared for him, and an enduring source of courage and inspiration to his family and friends.
He was the loving husband of the late Maria Amélia Pinto; devoted father of Fernanda and the late Marina; dear father-in-law of Joe; and beloved grandfather of Jason. He was deeply loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner and Porter Funeral Home (Peel Chapel), 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON L5B 1M8.
The Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, January 8 at 10 a.m., at Cristo Rei Parish, 3495 Confederation Pkwy, Mississauga, ON L5B 3G5 with interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery (Our Lady of Fatima Mausoleum), 6933 Tomken Road, Mississauga, ON L5T 1N4.
