Irma Christine Puplett, 88, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Irma was born on January 9th, 1937, in Toronto, Ontario, where she attended Western Technical-Commercial School. After graduation, Irma had a lengthy and varied career, but the companies she spoke most often about were the Royal Bank of Canada (Toronto and Montreal locations) and her long-standing position at CALEA (Canadian Air Lines Employees’ Association), which then became CAW (Canadian Airport Workers Union). After retiring from CAW, she found that she was not ready to stop working completely, so found a part-time job and continued working until age 78.
Irma was a naturally curious woman who was always open to learning new things and was always up to date with the current news. She loved engaging in meaningful conversations with family and friends (especially about her faith) and also delighted in meeting new people. She enjoyed travelling (whether it was a new city in Ontario or somewhere overseas), but one of her favorite places was the family cottage, where she could spend quality time with family and have a good, long swim.
Irma took pride in maintaining the garden that her parents started at their home (now her home), adding many of her own special touches along the way. Over the last few years, as she needed more help with the garden, she found pleasure in sharing her tips with Shelley and Tony. Irma enjoyed any type of game or puzzle and could often be found doing a jigsaw puzzle, playing Scrabble, doing a Sudoku or crossword puzzle, or playing online games on her computer. She was very eager to learn new technology and in recent years became quite an expert in using the iPad (especially to watch movies on Netflix) and was starting to get the hang of texting.
Irma was a devoted follower of Christ, and her strong faith was a constant source of strength and peace, helping her face every challenge in life with courage, positivity and dignity. She did not show her age in spirit or energy. Irma’s youthful heart and vibrant soul left a lasting impression on everyone she met. In fact, she purposely withheld her age so that people wouldn’t treat her as if she were “old”.
Irma will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her daughter Shelley (Tony), her sister Eileen (Franz), her brother-in-law Frank (husband of her late sister, Rosie), her nieces Heidi (Erik) and Tanya (Amanda), her nephews Stephen, Eric and Michael (Stephanie) and her great-nephews Rowan and Evan. She is joined in rest by her mother, Karoline, her father, Stephan, her sister Rosie, her son Christopher, along with many other loved ones throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salvation Army, Scott Mission or a charity of your choice.
Now that Irma has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of Irma’s physical life on earth, it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her.
He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain. The old things have disappeared. Revelation 21:4 (GNT)
