With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Genowefa "Jean" Ozimek, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 97. Predeceased by her parents, siblings, loving husband Chester and loving son Ted, Jean is survived by her daughter Renata (Elio) and grandchildren Robert, Simon and Ewa. She was the best Babcia!
Born in Wielamowicze, Poland in 1928, Genowefa carried with her the rich traditions, resilience, and warmth of her heritage throughout her life. She immigrated to Canada in 1960, where she built a life with Chester, rooted in love, family, and adventure.
Genowefa was a huge fan of figure skating and wrestling (though she would never admit it!). She liked cheering on the Blue Jays and the Leafs, especially with her son Ted, and watching TV with her grandchildren. She found great pleasure in her garden and was an excellent cook, making the best chicken soup, pierogi, rogaliki, and cinnamonki.
Genowefa was always ready for a road trip, visiting various places in south and southwestern Ontario and beyond, like New York, Nashville, Florida and Quebec. When she could no longer travel extensively, she enjoyed walks with her husband Chester, and Wheeltrans visits to her old neighbourhood and to High Park and Centennial Park. She found immense joy in exploring the world accompanied by her children and grandchildren. In this way she was able to enjoy the Bahamas one Christmas, a Caribbean cruise, Newcastle Australia, and Honolulu Hawaii. But by far her favourite vacation was visiting family in Poland, which she did on numerous occasions.
Genowefa leaves a legacy of strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. She will be greatly missed but will live on in our hearts. May her memory be a blessing, and may her spirit continue to inspire all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Copernicus Lodge for the wonderful care Genia received during her time there. In lieu of flowers, donations in Genowefa’s memory can be made to Copernicus Lodge Snoezelen Therapy or St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation.
