Edward 'Neddie' Healy, born in Conahy, Co. Kilkenny, on October 3, 1935, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 18th, 2025. His passing was four weeks after the passing of his Wife Georgette (Guertin) Healy, to whom he was married for 60 years. He was the beloved son of John Healy and Margaret (Maher) Healy and the third of seven children. Edward was predeceased by his brother Nick, sister Cahterine (Sr. Immaculata), brother Jerry and his daughter-in-law Ania. He will be sadly missed by his sons Kieran and Darren, daughter Yvonne and Paul and Diane, sisters Mary, Peggy and Rose, daughter-in-law Kelly, son-in-law Jason, his nine grandchildren and all his nieces, nephews and friends.
Ned grew up on the family farm in Kilmacar, a place he fondly referred to as his "Irish Home." As he often said about home on the farm: "there was always food and there was always work. We liked each other and got along famously".
The work ethic and drive instilled in him by his parents and the routine of farming, drove his later success business in the Canadian Electronics Industry. This ethic continues to thrive in his offspring today.
Ned attended St. Kieran's College in 1948. He had strong academic acumen and was a talented athlete. He played hurling for the College team and Kilkenny's Team. Upon graduating, and as the second son of a farming family, Neddie had to seek opportunities beyond the farm. At 21 yrs of age, he decided to leave Ireland for Canada; he was the only one in his family to ever emigrate.
Ned landed in Canada in 1957, and immediately joined the GAA in Montreal, to eventually become GAA Club President. There, he met his life-long companions: Dennis Leyne, Pat Dunne and Paul Moran. The four of them went on to win the North American Senior Hurling Championship, in 1961. Ned was a full-blooded Irishman and loved his roots and the Irish community in Montreal.
His first employment was on the Distant Early Warning Line, which was a radar station in the Northern Arctic region of Canada. The DEW line became operational in 1958, during the height of the Cold War.
He quickly learned to deal with the Canadian climate. He didn’t mind the hard work, because he knew this job was only a stepping stone towards bigger opportunities. These early experiences in Canada, along with the work ethic he inherited from parents on the farm, would shape him into the business leader that he would become.
In 1976 Matrix Electronics was founded and Ned began the legacy which continues today. He was a true entrepreneur and was able to identify niche products and services. He preferred the old-fashioned method of knocking on doors and face-to-face communication. Ned was a big believer in personal relationships and knew that people had to “like and trust you” in order to do business with you. Anyone you talk to today will agree that Ned’s success was attributed to honesty, integrity, and hard-work; he was a great person to do business with. Matrix is now a multi-national company with 180 employees and offices in USA, Canada, Japan and Europe.
Ned met and married the love-of-his-life, Georgette Guertin in Montreal. Their family grew from Georgette’s children Paul and Diane to include three children Kieran (Kelly Gilligan), Yvonne (Jason Robertson) and Darren (Ania Dale, deceased 2024) which led to a growing family of nine grandchildren: Venice, Merlot, Sean, Ryan, Victoria, Siobhan, Mairead, Kiera and Eamon (to whom Ned was affectionately known as “Papa”).
Ned was a devote Catholic, and never missed Sunday Mass. He loved his brothers and sisters dearly and maintained a close relationship with them. He will be remembered for his hard work, his love for the land, his unwavering devotion to his family and his business achievements. His legacy lives on through the values he instilled in all those who knew him.
A Mass service for Edward will be held on Saturday March 1st, at 1pm at All Saints Parish in Etobicoke, Ontario. Further, a Mass service will take place in Conahy, Kilkenny Ireland on Sunday May 11th at 11am.
“Dad, was truly a Legend. He was the greatest man I ever knew and I will carry him in my heart for the rest of my life. He taught me everything I know, and I owe him everything I have”, Kieran
“Thank you for the kindness, patience, and love you shared with everyone. Your commitment to your family is your greatest achievement and a lesson to us all. It is remarkable how many people you have touched and how many families you have supported over the years. You are an inspiration to help us do better, be better, and always act with love in our hearts.”, Darren
