Earle passed away peacefully at Toronto Grace Hospice on Friday, April 3, 2026. He will be profoundly and forever missed by his son, John-Daniel (J.D.) and daughter-in-law, Megan and his beloved grandsons, Owen and Nathan; and his brother Neville. He will be reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Kay (née Davidovich) and his brother Karl, and parents Pearl (née Kiddoe) and Cyril Oxford. He will be missed by Oxford, Kiddoe & Macdonald family members, friends across Canada & Jamaica and beyond, Kingston College old boys, colleagues from Shell, Carling O’Keefe, Molson & George Brown, and neighbours from Lorahill and Woodeden, who loved him and will miss his gregarious nature and his passion for life.
Earle will be remembered by all who knew him as welcoming and generous; a kindhearted and knowledgeable storyteller with an enthusiasm for life experiences and a sense of adventure. He was often the life of the party: sociable, roaring laughter, terrific sense of humour, eager to share tales over good meals.
He loved sports and friendly competitions; at Kingston College in Jamaica he competed in soccer, track and cricket, and he brought these passions with him to Canada, where he learned enough baseball and basketball to coach these sports for many seasons. In later years he channeled this sporting spirit towards playing squash, soccer and board games with his grandkids, fervently supporting the Blue Jays and Raptors, and his national soccer teams.
After gaining work experience at the end of high school with Shell in the Caribbean, Earle arrived in Canada for postsecondary studies, but relocated from Ottawa to Toronto Metropolitan University (Ryerson, at the time) where he graduated with a degree in chemistry and worked as a chemist in the petrochemical sector and then in brewing. Later he semi-retired and moved into academics as a professor at George Brown College.
He loved teaching, where he could share his passions and interests through science and math lessons. He was also passionate about music, from reggae and dub, to R&B and soul, to disco and pop music, and he bridged appreciation for the arts with his love of technology through his sophisticated and robust, self-assembled, home sound system and any latest and greatest gadgets.
After losing Kay, his loving partner of 30 years, Earle was not a typical widower. Always taking care of himself, cooking healthy meals, keeping active with friends, regularly exercising and noting the latest health tips, even taking virtual health appointments, he had a wealth of advice and knowledge of the latest data to share.
Earle will be sadly missed and fondly remembered, and we will cherish the memory of his joyful spirit, his energy and his laughter. We love you, Pops!
