Douglas Rollins Thompson was born on September 5, 1939, to proud parents John and Marguerite. He grew up in Queensborough, Ontario with his two sisters Lamoine and Elaine, and his brother Bob.
Doug was an excellent student and graduated in the early 1960s from Queen’s University with a Master of Science in Physics. He then worked for Imperial Oil and AECL before moving into a fulfilling career as an educator. Doug taught at North Albion Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke until his retirement. He was a gifted and dedicated teacher.
Doug had an adventurous spirit and was an accomplished photographer, world traveller and motorcycle enthusiast. He travelled the breadth of North America on motorcycle and visited many countries across Asia, South America and Europe. He’s been everywhere from Machu Picchu to Chile and even journeyed to the Soviet Union in 1977 to explore St. Petersburg. He captured these adventures with photos that transported his friends and family to faraway places.
Doug passed away on March 29, 2026, after a long battle. He leaves behind his beloved partner of forty years, Douglas Carroll.
