With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce that Deborah Orysa (Dmytruk) Steele, age 55, of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her husband and her three sons in her final moments.
Born on May 11, 1970, in Toronto, Ontario, to Bohdan (Danny) and Daria (Donna) Dmytruk, Orysa grew up with a passion for dance, music, and Ukrainian summer camp, and shared a special relationship with her Baba, Emilia (Emily) Szmigelska. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Andrew (Andy) James Steele, and is the devoted mother of Ryder Jacob, Kadyn Alexander, and William Bohdey, who will forever miss her and love her deeply. She is also survived by her loving brother and first friend, Mark Roman Dmytruk, spouse Tracey-Lynn McCron, and her nephew, Caleb Steven Dmytruk. She was the adoring godmother to Taissa Lesia Saluchok (Skira).
She will be missed by her mother-in-law Judith Marilyn and her late father-in-law James Ernest Steele. Her extended family includes her brother-in-law William Scott Steele, wife Lee Ann, and niece and nephew Sophie Elizabeth and Jameson Edward Steele.
Orysa’s life was defined by the deep connections she built, from her childhood in Mississauga attending Loyola and Streetsville High Schools to her time at the University of Windsor and her successful seven-year sales career at Pfizer and Parke-Davis. It was at Windsor where she met her husband and graduated with Honours in Kinesiology—an academic journey marked by outstanding grades and a nomination by the University for the Rhodes Scholarship. Her path to university included three years as a plumbing apprentice at George A. Kelson (Member of Local 46), a testament to her versatile and hardworking nature.
Throughout the 2010s, Orysa devoted herself to raising her three sons, becoming a cornerstone of the Mississauga community through her volunteer work with local schools, her church, and the Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM). Guided by a vibrant spirit, she found joy in music, dance, and fashion, and she embraced the world through travel and an open heart. Orysa possessed a harmony of intelligence, soul, and beauty, always championing honesty and transparency in her relationships. She was a profound friend who sought out life’s deeper meanings and offered a radiant smile even in her darkest moments. Her relentless strength was a lighthouse for many; though she has passed, her presence remains a permanent part of our hearts.
