It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a true legend, Charly Drago Horvat.
After a brave battle with cancer, Charly passed peacefully on February 10, 2025.
Charly is pre-deceased by his parents, brother, two sisters, his wife Marilyn (Nosworthy) and his oldest son, Christopher Horvat.
Charly was born on October 16, 1940, in Slovenia. As a young boy he joined the Navy and had the opportunity to travel the world. In 1966, Charly came to Canada where he soon fell in love with Marilyn (Nosworthy). They were wed in 1971. Over the next 20 years, Charly and Marilyn had an extraordinary life where they welcomed their two boys Christopher and Dwayne.
Charly had a second chance of love with Olga Zalig. Where over the past 33 years, they created many fond memories and great adventures.
Charly was a Millwright Mechanic and Supervisor at Campbell’s Soup for over 25 years before he retired. He was so proud to be an employee of Campbell’s.
Known for his laugh and sense of humor, Charly loved to be social and be around people making them laugh. So, he decided retirement was not for him and became the Relief Super at Humber Hill Towers, where he lived and worked for the past 25 years. The community he was surrounded by there was very special to him.
Charly had many passions including playing golf, watching horse racing, the casino and shows, watching hockey and listening to traditional Slovenian music.
Charly was very proud of his life and his family. Family was everything to him. Every gathering was a celebration and always meant so much to him to have everyone together.
Charly maintained a close connection to his roots in Slovenia, as well as a strong bond with his nephew Beno (Patricia), and their son Renee in Slovenia.
Charly will be forever missed by his son Dwayne (Brandi). His grandson’s, Christian (Kyler), Aaron (Halle), his granddaughter, Amelia. His great-grandchildren, Harlan and Thomas. His partner Olga and her son Robert.
A Visitation will take place at the Turner & Porter “Yorke” Chapel, 2357 Bloor St W., on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 2 p.m., followed by a service at 3 p.m.
A reception will be held at 15 LaRose Avenue (party room) following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University Health Network.
