With deep love and gentle sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Cecelia Ann Macdonald (née Brennen) on January 9, 2026, at the age of 87. Cecelia was a cherished sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Born in the prairie community of Aneroid, Saskatchewan, Cecelia grew up surrounded by the warmth of small-town life and the values that shaped her generous and steady spirit. After completing teacher’s college, she began her career as an educator, guided by a belief in compassion, curiosity, and the transformative power of learning.
Cecelia’s life took a joyful turn in Uranium City, Saskatchewan, where she met the man who would become her husband and lifelong companion. She married John Macdonald on April 3, 1961. Together, they embarked on a journey that carried them first to Montreal and eventually to Toronto, the city that became their family home.
In Toronto, Cecelia devoted herself to her husband and raising her four daughters, creating a household filled with love, laughter, and the gentle guidance that helped shape their lives. She later welcomed seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and delight. Their presence in her life was a source of comfort and encouragement.
Cecelia is survived by her husband John Macdonald; children Teresa (Chris), Eva, Laura (Geoff), Mary Kay (Sean); her grandchildren Bronson, Bryce, Kevin, Kimberly, Matthew, Lauren, Mia; her great-grandchildren Ryerson and Octavia, and by her sister Mae and dear friend Maxine. Cecelia was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Eva Brennen and her siblings Marita, Clayton, Maxwell, and Patrick.
Cecelia will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet resilience, and the deep devotion she showed to those she loved. Her legacy lives on in her children, her grandchildren, and the many lives she touched with her warmth and grace.
The family is grateful for the peacefulness of her final days and for the many memories that will continue to shine brightly in their hearts.
