Carmela passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, December 6th, at the age of 79. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 59 years, Antonio. Remembered by her sons Luciano (Catherine), Marcello (Cathy), and Michael (Julie). Cherished Nonna to Isabella, Jonathan, Maddelyne, and Benjamin. Carmela was a loving sister to Michelina (late Alessandro) and Guido (Michelina). She is predeceased by her siblings Anna (late Michele), Vincenzo (late Maria), and Elena (late Raffaele). She was a beloved zia to many.
Carmela was born in Bovino, Foggia, Italy on August 1, 1946, to Antonio and Valleverdina Scalzi. She came to Canada in 1964, following her brothers and sisters. Two years later, after completing his military service, Antonio joined her in Canada and they were married on July 30, 1966.
She was happiest in her kitchen, shaping dough with gentle hands, filling the house with the scent of fresh baking, and making sure no one ever left without her cake or a few cookies to take home, a sweet reminder of her generosity and love. She cherished every coffee shared, every conversation at her kitchen table, every meal surrounded by the people she adored. Those who knew her will remember the words she lived by:
If you give people the love, you receive the joy.
