With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother Caridad Tabal Benzon Barbero on March 6, 2025, at her home in Etobicoke, Ontario.
Caridad is survived by her daughters Trisha and Tracy (Daniel Viger); her grandsons Xavier and Benson Eddie; her brothers Honorio Benzon, Santiago Benzon, Andres Benzon and Melanio Benzon. She is predeceased by her husband Edgardo Barbero.
Caridad was born in Sto Domingo, Ilocus Sur, Philippines to Alejo Benzon and Concepcion Tabal. She immigrated to Toronto in 1970 and worked as a Registered Nurse at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) for her entire career. This was where she would create some of her most cherished friendships.
In 1979 she married her husband Ed. They moved to Etobicoke where they created many treasured memories with their two daughters. Caridad was active in her church community, Holy Angels, and found joy in gardening, travelling, needlepoint, watching the Leafs, Jays, and Raptors, and baking for others. Everyone loved mom’s cheese rolls and leche flan.
The family wants to express a great love and appreciation to her care team who supported mom with her Parkinson’s disease: Elena, Maria, Dr. Emily Swinkin, Aviva, and Jamuel. Their compassion, dedication and unwavering care brought comfort during her most challenging moments.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30th from 2-5 p.m. at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, (2357 Bloor St. West, Toronto).
