After 92 remarkable years, Hilde made her final journey to heaven with grace and dignity on January 9, 2026, leaving a legacy of a well-lived life grounded in faith, love and a joyful spirit.
Hilde was born in 1933 in Solke, which was then in Poland and became part of Ukraine after World War II. Much of her adolescence was spent with her mother, Maria, and four siblings, fleeing and seeking refuge in various countries — an experience that shaped the resilience and adaptability that defined her. Following the war, she immigrated to England, where she met and married her husband of 52 years, Kazik (Kazimierz), and where they had two children: Dorota in 1955 and Henry in 1958.
Together as a family, they immigrated to Canada in 1962, settling in Cooksville (now part of Mississauga) with hope, determination and a tireless work ethic. Hilde proudly became an electronic technician and worked in that capacity until she retired. In time, they built a beautiful life — a welcoming home; treasured time at a cottage in Kaszuby, Ontario; parties and events with the Polish immigrant community; annual trips to the Caribbean with friends, neighbours and family; and a deep appreciation for the peace and freedom that life in Canada offered them. They integrated eagerly into Canadian society, developing an interest in hockey and an appreciation for the comfort of Tim Hortons on a chilly winter’s day.
In her lifetime, Hilde had many roles: wife to Kazik; mother to Dorota (John) and Henry (Louise); grandmother to Lucas (Tricia), Aly (Nolan), Jeff (Niusha) and Lydia (Erwin); and great-grandmother to Anna, Daniel, Stanley, Noelle and Oliver. There was no greater joy in Hilde’s life than spending time with her family and hearing all of the stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law and close friend, Doreen (Ted), plus many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family in Ontario, Nova Scotia, United Kingdom and Poland. Hilde was admired and loved by all for her compassion, generosity, kindness and appreciation for everything.
Hilde had an extensive welcoming committee awaiting her in heaven: her husband, Kazik (2003); her sisters, Lily (1994) and Wanda (2009); her brothers, Ted (2014) and Eddie (2017); her grandson, Lucas (2018); and her son-in-law, John (2023), among other cherished friends and extended family.
From Hilde’s family: we would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Westminster Place in Mississauga and the LHIN (formerly CCAC), who supported and cared for her during the 12 years she lived there. We share our deepest gratitude to the many friends she made and cherished at Westminster Place. To the entire team at Linhaven in St. Catharines, we will be eternally grateful for the professional and compassionate care you gave to Hilde during the final months of her life. She valued and loved you all.
