Born to Harry and Elizabeth Leslie, nee Bullock in Toronto on June 5th, 1929, Anna "June" Tawton passed away peacefully, surrounded by three generations of family at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Wednesday March 11th, 2026.
The sixth of seven children, starting with Harry (Jean), Agnes (Bruce Mahaffy), Betty (Tommy Hills) Lindsey (Marion), William (Joan) and the youngest, Margaret (Boyd McKee), June's entry into this world at the beginning of the Great Depression was considered by her parents to be their "good luck child".
June met her future husband, Graham "Gray" Tawton of New Toronto at a Presbyterian church camp for young people, thus beginning a life long devotion to Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
June and Gray were married in 1953 and began a family with son Michael, born in 1956 followed 15 months later with identical twin daughters, Lizabeth (John Ozolins) and Joanne (Rachel Ross). June was overjoyed to be blessed with grandson; Christopher Ozolins (Rachel Dubeau) and granddaughter Katherine Ozolins (Ray Elkins) and great granddaughter; Indi Elkins and great grandson, Van Elkins, who loved their “GG” dearly.
A relationship which began at the beach, flourished near water. Gray and June built a beautiful home on the Humber River the year before Hurricane Hazel flooded it's banks.
After several part-time jobs beginning as a secretary with the Toronto Star and at Oshawa Wholesale near their home on the River, June entered what would be her ultimate industry as bookkeeper and receptionist at Lackie's Marina on the Humber and later at the historic Collingwood Waterworks which they developed into "Mariner Aquatics".
What began as a sideline for Gray selling swimming pools ,evolved into a full time career in the marine industry with the name "Aquatics" encompassing their main interests of swimming and boating while situated in the mecca of their third most favourite activity, that being skiing at Blue Mountain.
When Gray’s photoengraving career ended with the cancelling of the Eaton's catalogue, they decided to make use of their experience with boats and pools to move permanently to Collingwood, creating a gorgeous home and business in the Victorian style pumping station.
June not only served customers but also managed to act as company accountant, regularly staying up all hours balancing books to the penny.
After Gray's passing at the young age of 58, June returned to her home town of Port Credit once again creating a beautiful home on a quiet cul-de-sac across the street from her daughter and son-in-law.
Eventually the multi-story dwelling, became too much and June moved to a lovely condo in Clarkson.
Always a fan of crosswords and sudokus, June took pleasure in doing these daily challenges. She had a real love for baking which she so much enjoyed sharing with family, friends and both visitors and members of St. Andrews Memorial Presbyterian Church.
June was always active in the community, from teaching Sunday School, doing volunteer work, contributing to the homeless by making sandwiches for the shelter, running election offices when not campaigning for the PC's and teaching others to carry on with her Irish baking and cooking. June would do anything for those she loved, and she loved everyone.
She passed on her love of Christ through physical effort, whether it be the boarding of African students in her home or the shuttling of the elderly to and from church or medical appointments.
June taught us to accept all as God's children. She was a fearless disciple, humble servant, devout Christian and exemplar of humanity her entire life and looked forward with great anticipation to meet her maker.
