Peacefully at home with family at her side, Anita passed away on August 24, 2025, shortly before turning ninety-seven. She was born in Scotland and moved with her family to Canada in 1948, where they eventually settled in Toronto. There, she met her beloved husband Louis, with whom she is now reunited. Anita was predeceased by her parents, Umberto and Angelina Verrecchia, her siblings Elina, Alfredo, Iolanda, Erico, Victor (Maria), as well as her much loved son-in-law Craig Bradley. She is survived by her three children, Andrea Bradley, Paul (Maura Gascho) and Lorena, as well as her grandchildren Kurt (Tara), Derek (Quyen), Julie (Cameron) and Dan (Beatrice). Anita was a much-loved Nonna to her great-grandchildren Cayden, Holden, Paige, Chloe, Landon and our new little Louie, and was a very special aunt to her great-nephew Grayson, not to mention her many nieces and nephews. She maintained close relationships with her relatives, friends and neighbours over the years, especially her dear friend Evelyn.
While Anita always vocal about her love for both Scotland and Italy, she frequently reminded us how blessed we are to live in Canada. She loved travelling, volunteering, exercising, dancing, gardening, and was an avid dog lover, but her family always came first. She was an excellent cook and we will all miss her pasta and countless memorable meals, not to mention her famous turkey dinners. Anita was a remarkably positive individual right up to the end, and an inspiration to many. As our Dad always said, “she [was] small, but mighty.” But most of all, Anita was simply one of those remarkable women who was loved by all, and was utterly devoted to God.
We would like to thank all the many PSWs that tirelessly took care of Mom from both Bayshore and CBI, while she was bedridden for the past one and a half years. You helped Mom to die on the water looking over to Toronto, just as she had been born on the water looking over to Edinburgh. We would especially like to thank Mom’s palliative care nurses, Mary Ellen Shakeshaft and Anne, for all your dedicated care and support. And finally, would also like to share our immense gratitude to our many relatives, friends and neighbours for all the love you showered on both Mom and ourselves. We love you all.
For those that wish, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke.
