Passed away peacefully at the age of 100 years, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Trillium Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Petro Mayewsky. Mother of Walter Mayewsky and his wife Halyna. Step-grandma of Inna Lawrence and step-great grandma of Kristina and Henry Lawrence. Sister of late Maria Netchay (late Nicolas) and aunt of Victor Wyprysky (Mary). Zina was also blessed with extended family and many friends. Zina was born in 1924 in Boryspil, Ukraine near Kyiv. She came with her late son Alexander to Canada following her beloved husband Petro. They were later joined by her sister Maria, parents Wasyl and Maria following the upheaval in Europe after WWII. They eventually settled in Toronto and Hamilton building a life in this great country. She was very active in the Ukrainian community. Zina built a career as a home maker, heritage language teacher and longtime director of Lesia Ukrainka Ukrainian School. She will be greatly missed by all her family.
Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, 905-279-7663, on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 6-9 p.m. Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Church (855 Barton Street East, Hamilton) on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
