In Celebration of

Zenon Bagan

December 28, 1928 -  June 12, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zenon Bagan on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. Beloved husband of Halyna (Helen) who predeceased him only seven weeks earlier, father of Dana (Myroslav) and Ivanka (Ihor). Loving Dziadzio to Sophia, Stephanie (Peter), Juliana and Gregory. Older brother to our uncle Bob, who also predeceased him.

Zenon was born in Britannia Beach, British Columbia, to Julia (nee Hoshowsky) of Winnipeg and Volodymyr Bagan of present day Ivano-Frankivsk. Throughout his childhood Zenon moved with his family first to Winnipeg, then Sudbury, before finally settling in Toronto where he completed High School. Zenon always spoke fondly about the family farm the Bagans operated outside of Markham. He studied to be a pharmacist at the University of Toronto, worked hard and opened a pharmacy in Etobicoke. There he built up a clientele that would follow him to every pharmacy where he worked. His family introduced him to his wife of 65 years, Halyna, and together they raised two daughters Dana and Ivanka. Zenon was a very dedicated Dziadzio, always imparting important advice on all matters of life to his grandchildren. Everyone knew that Zenon would love to reminisce - who could forget the story about Henio? He also loved to spend time at the family cottage. The entire world could have ended in apocalypse - but there were many plans and ongoing projects to be completed! Today we remember a humourous, outgoing and loving father and grandfather, a proud Ukrainian and Canadian, our Dziadzio.

In lieu of flowers we request that donations be made to St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral.

Dear Dania and Ivanka and families

So sorry to learn of your Tato’s passing, and so soon after your mom. Both your parents were very interesting and vibrant people, and will be missed. Zenon has a particularly witty and wry sence of humour, and could always make you laugh. I remember what good friends they were with my parents - hopefully they are again sharing some laughter. Zenon and Halyna Bagan were one of the nicest couples you could know. At church they were very helpful and supportive of church functions and they always had a kind word or good anecdote to relate. St. Josephats and the many friends they had there will miss them at our functions and at church coffee and refreshment time.
