In Celebration of

Winnie Wing Yin Cheung

March 13, 1953 -  December 24, 2021

Our beloved mom passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital on December 24, 2021 at the age of 68. Loving mother to Stanley (Sheena) and Stephanie, and dear sister of Lan-Chu, Shiu-Hing, Yat-Hung Peter (Elaine), Ying-Wah Christine (KK), Yuk-Yuen, Yee-Lin Eleanor, Po-Lin Pauline (Roderich), late Yat-Wai Frank (Cecilia), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born to Wu-Sang Yung and Sin-Yuen Yeung in Hong Kong on March 13, 1953. She graduated from Ying Wa Girls’ School in Hong Kong and went on to study the Humanities at University of Toronto. She married Michael Cheung in Toronto in 1977.

Winnie worked as a human resources lead at the Hong Kong Jockey Club. In Canada, she worked at Equipment Planning Associates, and more recently at Colliers International, as an esteemed office manager up until her death. People would often speak highly of her dedication to and capability in her work.

Mom was an avid and adventurous traveler: her travels have taken her as far as Panama, Cuba, Israel, London, and other parts of Europe. She also loved the natural world and the outdoors, frequently hiking with her friends and family whilst paying a keen eye to flowers, birds, and butterflies.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation in Winnie’s name to 105 Gibson. If you are abroad, please consider making a donation to a local charity that supports the underprivileged and giving a voice to the voiceless (i.e. refugees) such as World Vision or Habitat to Humanity, as these causes were close to Winnie’s heart.

105 Gibson is a community centre that offers programs and services to help those in need in the community. Winnie regularly volunteered with 105 Gibson, organizing donations and speaking with those who participated in their “Out of the Cold” program which provides safe overnight shelter, warm meal and hospitality to the less fortunate one night per week over the winter months. She also helped sort donated clothing for the thrift store.

The family is forever grateful to all the doctors and nurses at North York General Hospital for the care they provided to mom during her time there.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Private Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 11 am. Please join the family via Livestream by clicking the button below.

Dear Stan,

Our deepest condolence of you and your family. Reading at your mum's tribute, I can imagine your great personality and kindness are built into the gene since born. It's a shock to me as I always drive by your mum's home almost everyday. Now she is with GOD and we will be always reminded to treasure GOD's grace and serve him with our whole heart. So one day, we can be with our love ones forever.
