Winnifrith Florence (nee Kelly) Roberts Aldridge passed away peacefully on Nov 9, 2019, at Trillium Hospital Health Centre, Mississauga ON., after a short-term illness and two hip surgeries…at 99 years old.
Winnie was born in Northern Alberta on September 8, 1920, to Nicholas and Winnifrith Kelly. She had two brothers and three sisters. The family moved to Nanaimo BC in 1940.
She married in 1948 to Stanley Roberts (deceased 1997) and they had three children, eight moves and three job transfers.
She is survived by her very loving husband of 15 years (or 5,468 days as they like to celebrate) Bill Aldridge and her children Gail Heezen (Bob), Kelly Roberts (Marcia) and Roy Roberts (Holly) and 7 grandchildren: Julie Ball (Bryan), Rob Wilson, Dana Conn (Mark), Natasha Roberts (Scott), Nicholas, Hayley and Shannon Roberts. 5 Great Grandchildren Lachlan, Evan, Isla, Kayden, Hendricks and one more on the way! Also very special to her was Sue Aldridge Smith. She is survived by many assorted nieces, nephews and countless special friends.
Winnie was renowned for her many talents and abilities.
She was an amazing artist (all our family have a Winnie original painting and a hand painted silk scarf), a fabulous cook and an entertainer (she loved everyone to come for a meal anytime). She enjoyed decorating her home with own crafts (ceramics, homemade candles, decoupage) and could set a beautiful table. She was a volunteer for the mentally disabled kids, a tough bridge competitor, a golfer well into her 90’s and she found herself able to play a mean hockey goaltender on the driveway! She and Bill had lots of fun at the casinos and loved to travel. She drove her kids to piano lesson, hockey, ballet, tennis, golf and all other sports, getting her licence late in life at 42. She loved the theatre and of course their four dogs and all her granddogs.
Her love of family was number one in her life and everyone knew it. She tried to do everything for them.
Her happy contagious smile was one of a kind. She was always optimistic! And she will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of her Life will be at February 15th at 2:00 p.m. at 65 Port St. E. Mississauga in the party room. Please wear purple to honour her.
